Laboratory Medicine of the International Islamic University Malaysia was established in 2015. It is responsible for academic training in basic medical sciences, clinical and allied health sciences for undergraduate and postgraduate students in IIUM. The department is providing medical laboratory service which forms an integral part of its activities in Sultan Ahmad Shah Medical Centre (SASMEC) @IIUM. The academic staff conduct the teaching-learning activities for all courses in the Phase I which include MBBS 1109, MBBS 1210, MBBS 1311, and MBBS 1410 of the Year 1 and MBBS 2109, MBBS 2210, MBBS 2310, and MBBS 2410 of the Year 2. These courses comprise of general pathology, anatomic pathology, haematology, transfusion medicine, chemical pathology, medical microbiology and medical genetics subjects. The academic activities conducted include lecture, practical session, quiz\/tutorial, problem-based learning, seminar, case discussion and clinical skills session. The department is also involved in the teaching-learning activities of the clinical phases (Phase II and III) related to pathology subjects as well as the Islamic Input in the Medical Programme (IIMP) The diagnostic laboratory is equipped with high end facilities for this purpose. The department is in the process of acquiring accreditation MS ISO 15189:2014 for quality and competence in medical
