About Us
From a humble beginning of 12 students, the Kulliyyah had increased the student intake to more 150 students per intake, making the total of 179 enrolled students in 2016, consisting of 144 female and 35 male students.
At present there are 40 academic staffs. Majority of them are still pursuing their Masters in Nursing or PhDs either abroad or locally.
From the time the Kulliyyah was formed, the Annex Building of the Kulliyyah of Medicine was used as the temporary office. When the Kulliyyah of Medicine shifted to the Indera Mahkota Campus (IMC), the Kulliyyah of Nursing occupied the whole second floor as its administrative office and Clinical Laboratory. In 2009 the office was shifted to the second floor from the original office on the ground floor. Now the office is more spacious and located at a more strategic place next to the teaching and learning facilities in particular near the Clinical Skills Centre (CSC).
For strategic management, the Kulliyyah used Balance Scorecard method as championed by the IIUM. The Kulliyyah worked very hard to meet the target as measured by the Key Performance Index (KPI).
Nurses play an important role in the patient care both in the government and private hospitals and they are essential personnel in the healthcare services. Currently, there is shortage of nurses in the country and the government health services. It is hoped that this programme will improve the situation and thereby consolidate the health services in Malaysia.

Message From the Dean
السلام عليكم ورحمة اللّه وبركاتة
First and foremost, we would like to welcome to the Kulliyyah of Nursing of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
The Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) is a programme conducted by this Kulliyyah. This is a new degree programme both to the university as well as to the country. However, the nursing degree programme has long been established in many parts of the world.
The uniqueness of the Kulliyyah of Nursing, IIUM programme is the integration of Islamic input in its curriculum. In addition to the Islamic input, this programme will be emphasizing on the Malaysian local need in the local context of our society.
Traditionally, nursing programmes in Malaysia have been conducted by the Ministry of Health at the Diploma level. Only recently have the public universities in Malaysia begun to offer nursing programmes at degree level. Currently, University Malaya (UM), University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), University Sains Malaysia (USM), University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), University Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and University Putra Malaysia (UPM) are offering the degree programmes of nursing.
We are one of the latest public universities approved by the government to conduct the Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) programme. We are also the only university where nursing is given full ‘faculty’ status.
The nursing course is similar to the medical course in the sense that it involves learning about people, their health and social well being and their health problems. To be a good nurse requires not only sound medical knowledge but also a positive attitude with high moral values and good communication skill.
So, in this Kulliyyah, the students will hopefully acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes required by a caring, competent and professional nurse.
Finally, we hope to provide our students with a positive and memorable stay at IIUM, particularly at Kulliyyah of Nursing, so that they may regard this part of their education, both socially and academically, as a special time of their lives.
May Allah S.W.T guide us in this undertaking.
Thank you.
