This project was initiated by the Department of Library and Information Science, IIUM in early 2014 as part of student activities for the subject LISC 6191: Management of Islamic Manuscript Collections. Later in early 2016 this project was supported by a research grant from IIUM. The titles listed here were mostly taken from published catalogues and official list of manuscripts from the institutions concerned.
The objectives of the project are:
- To list all Malay manuscripts titles in Malaysia according to their format,
- To help researchers to identify Malay manuscript's title, location and subject,
- To promote Malay manuscripts in the country, and,
- To provide a domain for research on Malay manuscripts for students.
This is an ongoing project that will continue for some years in order to improve the quality of the Union Catalogue. Photos of the manuscripts cannot be added to the Union Catalogue at the moment. We plan to add new columns in the future especially books, thesis and articles relating to the particular manuscript titles. Therefore comments and additional information are welcome.
