SDG 3 @ KOP

Collaborations and Health Services

The field of healthcare is rapidly evolving, requiring stronger interprofessional collaboration to ensure quality patient care and effective health system management. The Kulliyyah of Pharmacy, IIUM, an academic institution responsible for training future pharmacists, plays a critical role in shaping the health workforce. Strengthening partnerships with hospitals, clinics, research centres, pharmaceutical industries and public health organisations fosters mutual growth, innovation, and improved healthcare outcomes. Hence, the Kulliyyah of Pharmacy at IIUM has collaborated with numerous health-related institutions at local, national, international, and regional levels. This collaboration serves as the crucial platform for students’ workplace experiential training, research and development consultation, and sustainable community engagement programmes.

Objectives of Collaboration

  • To bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
  • To enhance research, innovation, and evidence-based practice.
  • To provide students with real-world exposure and clinical experience.
  • To promote interprofessional education and collaborative practice.
  • To address public health needs through joint initiatives.

Benefits of Collaboration

a. Improved Education and Training

Collaboration with hospitals, primary health centres, and other health institutions allows pharmacy students to gain hands-on experience in patient care, medication management, and clinical decision-making. This practical exposure enhances their competencies and prepares them for diverse roles in the healthcare system.

Impak Sihat : A Telehealth Project Initiative in Rural Area of Ulu Tembeling, Jerantut, Pahang

Telehealth can benefit remote and rural areas with limited access to health professionals and facilities. Telehealth models were associated with positive outcomes for patients and healthcare professionals, suggesting these models are feasible and can be effective. Hence, the Kulliyyah of Pharmacy has developed a digital health system tailored to the understanding level of the rural population called IMPAK SIHAT.

It is of utmost importance to reach out and target the rural community and empower them with health education and quality use of medicines via telehealth services that can potentially improve pharmaceutical care service delivery by reducing medication errors and adverse drug events, and ensuring the sustainability of health outcomes.

The project is a collaborative effort between the Kulliyyah of Pharmacy IIUM with the Ulster University under the ISPF grant.
