Public Health Event 2024: Sustainable Health for All
Public Health Event : Community Engagement Programme Kulliyyah of Pharmacy and Kampung Alor Batu, Jabor, Kuantan Pahang.
On the 8 th of January 2023, a total of 47 fourth-year students of the Kulliyyah of Pharmacy
have successfully organized a Community Engagement Programme for Public Health
Pharmacy course assessment at Kampung Alor Batu, Jabor. The event included health
screening activities which were cholesterol, glucose, carbon monoxide, blood pressure and
body mass index assessment among 35 villagers in collaboration with JKKK Kampung Alor
Batu Jabor. Health exhibition addressing topics of using devices and medication, smoking,
influenza, and other health issues were also included. Findings from the programme were
presented in a seminar by the students highlighting data obtained from the programme, its
interpretation, and recommended strategies to address the health issues. Among the issues
identified were uncontrolled blood sugar, cholesterol, use of supplements, lack of health
literacy and cigarette smoking. The students were accompanied by Dr. Tengku Karmila
Tengku Kamil, Dr. Nor Hidayah Mohd Taufek and Dr. Norny Syafinaz Ab Rahman. Students
had the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills addressing health issues of the local
community, observe the consultation with pharmacy lecturers and realise their potential and
responsibility to contribute to the community. The programme was beneficial for the villagers
since they have not received any health screening since before the COVID-1 pandemic and
they had a great opportunity to discuss about their health concerns.
