DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM
In 2013, the Department of Tourism Planning and Hospitality Management was first established as one of the departments in Kulliyyah of Languages and Management (KLM), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). The Department of Tourism Planning and Hospitality Management started to offer a Bachelor of Tourism Planning and Hospitality Management (Honours) programme from 2013 until 2018. Then, the Department of Tourism Planning and Hospitality Management changed to the Department of Tourism due to the change of its nomenclature into Bachelor in Tourism Management (Honours) in 2019. By its very nature, a tourism programme is multidimensional and purposely integrative with planning and management. Given the growing urban challenges, the need for training, skill upgrading and knowledge enhancement in the field of tourism is demanding. Therefore, IIUM Bachelor in Tourism Management is to give a platform for those involved in the field of the tourism industry to acquire new skills and knowledge. Moreover, it also aims to develop ethical skills, critical thinking, professionalism, management, creativity and innovation in a specialised area of studies in Tourism Management. Input on Islamic perspectives in the field of tourism, hospitality and management has been incorporated into the courses to make the graduates more aware of their roles as the Khalifah and Murabbi in this challenging scenario and current development.
