The Department of Accounting aims to produce accounting graduates with a high degree of professionalism and moral excellence; who are professionally competent and observe ethical norms. As such, the accounting curriculum has been designed to provide the conceptual framework of accounting by integrating components of Islamic and accounting knowledge.

 

Programmes offered by the Department:

 

Bachelor of Accounting (BSc.)

 

The programme prepares students to face the challenges of a modern accounting and business profession. Due to its quality, the programme has been granted maximum exemption of examination papers by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and the CPA (Australia). Local and international students will graduate with a total of 148 and 146 credit hours, respectively; inclusive of 6 months industrial training.

 

 

Master of Science (MSc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Accounting

 

 

Our postgraduate programmes aim to develop experts who are able to formulate Islamically desirable policies in line with the rapidly changing Accounting environment. Moreover, our programmes encourage further research in accounting, which incorporates the Islamic perspective. The department’s strengths are in the areas of Islamic Accounting, Environmental Accounting, Zakat Accounting, Management Accounting, Public Sector Accounting, Accounting Education & Ethics, Auditing, Taxation, Financial Reporting, Accounting Information Systems and Corporate Governance.

 

 

The department is fully committed to a high standard of teaching. A small group, problem-centred teaching philosophy complements the use of up-to-date technology and training facilities. Career development has been an integral part of the Department experience. A wide variety of corporations, including leading audit firms, visit the department annually to recruit our graduates

 

 

The Department continues its efforts to produce well-rounded intellectuals and professionals who are committed to the promotion of Islamic principles and disciplines. Our graduates have been successful in securing jobs in various sectors such as public accounting, auditing, consulting, finance, banking and general management.

 

 

Going forward, the Department aspires to develop more rigorous programmes in Accounting from an Islamic perspective. Courses in this area are being offered and taught by our qualified lecturers and international experts. Realising the increasing awareness and need for Islamic banking and finance, our graduates are actively involved in developing accounting practices in various banks and financial institutions.
