Zaid Bazaar : “Iftar, Where Muamalat Meets Barakah”

By: Nurin Alya Zamri The primary objective of the program is to cater the food issue due to the lack of food variety in Mahallah Zaid Bin Harithah. In addition, it seeks to support the local vendors around Pagoh, Muar, Johor to improve their stability in the economy, especially during Ramadan. This program was organized by Mahallah Representative Committee Entrepreneurship (MRC) 22/23 and continued by a new tenure, MRC of Entrepreneurship 23/24 with a new name, which is Zaid Bazaar which started on 12th March until 4th April 2024. This initiative is aligned with the vision and mission of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), aiming to nurture the quality of holistic excellence which is imbued with Islamic moral-spiritual values, in the process of learning, teaching, research, consultancy, publication, administration and student life. The program began with the preparation of vendors setting up their tents and raw ingredients for the day. IIUM students as well as Edu Hub students from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) and Politeknik Tun Syed Nasir (PTSN) crowded around the café Mahallah Zaid Bin Harithah’s compound at peak hour, around 5 pm every day since the Bazaar started at 4 pm until Iftar.  As the program aims to help local vendors including students’ small businesses to enhance their income, it strengthens the ukhuwah between IIUM students and Edu Hub students with the local community. The program ended with an informal closing ceremony attended only by the Entrepreneurship Club members to celebrate the success of the program and to evaluate the feedback received by the IIUM students and Edu students. Furthermore, the Program Manager of Zaid Bazaar, Nur Anis Shahirah gave encouraging remarks for the continuation of this program in an improved version, presumably in Ramadan 2025.
