Kuala Lumpur, 25 August 2024. International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) continues to uphold its tradition of excellence, securing a notable achievement in the ALSA Malaysia Mediation Competition 2024. This prestigious event drew in numerous participants from law schools across the nation, all eager to demonstrate their mediation skills in a competitive yet collaborative setting.
Representing IIUM were two highly capable teams, both demonstrating their dedication and preparedness throughout the competition. Team A, comprised of Br. Muhammad Ihsan Husaini, Sr. Nur Balqis Humaira, and Br. Mohamad Najef made an extraordinary mark by securing the coveted Second Runner-Up position. The team was also awarded the prestigious Best Mediation Plan, an accolade that speaks to their ability to craft comprehensive, thoughtful, and strategic approaches to mediation problems.
Meanwhile, Team B, featured Sr. Naielah Nafisah, Sr. Sri Aishah, Sr. Nuha, and Br. Muhd Mikhail showcased unwavering determination and skill throughout the competition. Though not securing a podium position, their efforts reflect IIUM’s longstanding commitment to fostering future legal minds who are as sharp in their reasoning as they are in their sense of justice and diplomacy.
This victory is a testament not only to their technical prowess but also to their capacity to apply legal reasoning with empathy and diplomacy—traits essential to effective mediation, preparing them to be well-rounded legal professionals who are equipped to excel both in and out of the courtroom. Much of the success and professionalism displayed by both teams can be attributed to the guidance of their dedicated coaches, Br. Muhammad Darwisy and Sr. Athirah Batrisyia.
The achievements of Team A and the commendable efforts of Team B are a source of immense pride for IIUM, as they continue to build a legacy of excellence in the field of mediation. This competition marks another chapter in IIUM’s storied history of legal accomplishments.
