COMPARATIVE LEGAL STUDY: CMU STUDENTS OBSERVE DIVERSE LAW CLASSES AT AIKOL

Gombak, 11th-12th November 2025 – The academic component of the AIKOL-Chiang Mai University (CMU) Student Exchange Programme provided CMU delegates with a rare and valuable opportunity to observe key courses within the Malaysian legal framework, highlighting AIKOL’s unique position in integrated legal education.

The CMU students were fully integrated into the Kulliyyah’s schedule, observing lectures led by senior faculty members on subjects critical to both Malaysian and international legal studies. The observed classes included:

  • Constitutional Law (Associate Professor Datuk Dr Shamrahayu Ab Aziz)
  • Family Law (Associate Professor Datin Dr Norliah Ibrahim)
  • Competition Law (Associate Professor Dr Nasarudin Abdul Rahman)
  • International Law (Professor Dr Abdul Ghafur Hamid @ Khin Maung Sein)
  • ASEAN Law (Associate Professor Dr Mohd Yazid Zul Kepli)

Observing subjects like Family Law and International Law allowed the visiting students to directly compare the legal traditions and jurisprudential approaches of Malaysia and Thailand. These sessions reinforced the exchange’s goal of fostering intellectual discourse and practical insights beyond theoretical textbooks.

The exposure to specialized regional subjects like ASEAN Law and unique disciplinary approaches underscores AIKOL’s commitment to providing comprehensive, globally relevant legal training and serves as a vital benchmark for comparative legal reform and scholarship.
