GOMBAK, 7 January 2026 – The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), through the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL), successfully convened the 21st Professor Emeritus Ahmad Ibrahim Memorial Lecture (AIML 2026) at the Multipurpose Hall, Wadi Budi, IIUM Gombak Campus. The annual lecture continues to honour the enduring legacy of the late Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Datuk Ahmad bin Mohamed Ibrahim, a towering figure in Malaysian legal education and scholarship.
The prestigious event was graced by distinguished university leaders, members of the legal fraternity, academics, students, and representatives of the late Professor Ahmad Ibrahim’s family. Among those present were YBhg. Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Hussain, President of IIUM, and YBhg. Prof. Emeritus Datuk Dr. Osman Bakar, Rector of IIUM.
The programme commenced with a welcoming remarks, the Rector of IIUM emphasised the late professor’s pivotal role in shaping legal education in Malaysia, particularly through his efforts to harmonise civil law and Shari‘ah within the national legal framework.
The Dean of AIKOL, Prof. Dr. Ida Madieha Abdul Ghani Azmi, then introduced the distinguished speaker for the memorial lecture, YBhg. Dato’ Haji Mohamad Ezri bin Haji Abdul Wahab, President of the Malaysian Bar. In his lecture entitled “The Evolving Legal Landscape: Tradition, Ethics and Technological Innovation,” Dato’ Mohamad Ezri explored the contemporary challenges facing the legal profession, highlighting the importance of balancing long-standing legal traditions and ethical principles with rapid technological advancements that are reshaping legal practice and access to justice.
A significant highlight of AIML 2026 was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IIUM and the Malaysian Bar, marking a strategic collaboration aimed at strengthening engagement in legal education, professional development, and scholarly initiatives. This was followed by the book launching and relaunching of the Law Majalla, reaffirming AIKOL’s commitment to legal scholarship and academic discourse.
The event concluded with the presentation of souvenirs, a photography session, an exhibition visit, and networking over refreshments. AIML 2026 once again reaffirmed IIUM’s dedication to preserving the intellectual legacy of Professor Emeritus Ahmad Ibrahim while fostering dialogue on the evolving role of law in society
