All praise is due to Almighty Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala (SWT) alone, the exalted, the Lord of the worlds, peace and blessings be upon Prophet Muhammad (SAW), his family and his righteous companions.
On behalf of the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL), I am pleased to welcome you to our website.
AIKOL was formed together with the establishment of the International Islamic University Malaysia in 1983. Previously known as the Kulliyyah of Laws, it was renamed in 2000 in honour of its founding father and ex-Dean, Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Datuk Ahmad Mohamed Ibrahim. Since its establishment, this Kulliyyah has been led by many distinguished legal scholars.
It is now one of the largest law schools in Malaysia with a unique curriculum, where Islamic Law is taught alongside conventional laws, thereby producing students who are able to read both laws from a comparative perspective. Since 1987, the Kulliyyah has produced thousands of law graduates who are now serving in various capacities namely legal practitioners, syarie lawyers, academicians, legal advisors, deputy public prosecutors, members of the judiciary, and politicians.
The Kulliyyah comprises of the following three Departments, the Civil Law Department, Legal Practice Department and Islamic Law Department. At present, there are 89 teaching staff, around 1314 undergraduate and 266 postgraduate students.
The Kulliyyah has educators and researchers who are experts in an array of diversified and specialised in subjects. In fact, around 91% of them hold doctorate qualifications and many have received awards and fellowships, nationally and internationally, for their outstanding contributions in teaching and research. In order to mould, nurture and inculcate constructive and critical minds in students, the academic staff employ various innovative teaching methods and well receive updates on new teaching tools.
Our law students are taught to well equip themselves to analyse complex legal issues, find solutions, conduct legal research, form legal arguments and contribute to decision-making at various levels. They are also trained in negotiation and mediation skills which are invaluable in a variety of occupations. Further, it would prepare the students to face the dynamic challenges of globalisation. Besides imparting the legal knowledge, we also ensure that the students are equipped with the right Islamic values so that their material strive would not in any way compromise their character and integrity.
As a contribution to the society, the Kulliyyah offers legal advice to the general public in almost all areas of law with the direct involvement of not only the lecturers but also graduating students, to expose them to real-life legal practice alongside their studies. This enables the students to develop a range of transferable skills whilst helping the community.
At AIKOL we work as a team and as the Dean, it is my hope, that together we manage to propel the Kulliyyah to greater heights, strengthening each other all the way with full support and cooperation.
Last but not least, I kindly invite you to browse our website and to direct inquiries (if any) to my office.
Thank you. والسلام
