IIUM MOOT TEAMS TO REPRESENT MALAYSIA IN THE ELIMINATION ROUNDS OF THE AIAC ASIA PACIFIC VIS PRE-MOOT 2024

Gombak. 7 February 2024. Two IIUM Moot Teams successfully became two of the top 64 teams after competing against other universities during the four-day general rounds of the AIAC Asia Pacific Vis Pre-Moot 2024 jointly organised by the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) Kuala Lumpur and Asia Pacific Vis Pre-Moot from 1st – 4th February 2024. This competition is organised in conjunction with the celebrated and renowned international arbitration moot, Willem C Vis Arbitration Moot Competition which will be held annually in Hong Kong or Vienna, Austria.

Various pre-moots have been independently organised by different arbitral institutions, such as the AIAC Kuala Lumpur and other organisations around the world, which serve as a prelude and a preparation for the grand stage, which will be held in Hong Kong or Vienna at the end of March 2024.

The AIAC APAC Vis Pre-Moot this year (conducted online) has 160 teams from universities all over the world such as Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, India, Philippines, United Kingdom, Russia, China, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Tanzania, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, South Korea, France, United States of America, Kenya, Australia, Brazil, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

Both IIUM Moot Teams, Team 1 and Team 2 during the said general rounds had rigorously competed against the Hague University (Netherlands), South China University of Technology (China), Government Law College (India), Ankara University Law School (Turkey), National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (China), Royal Institute of Colombo (Sri Lanka) and School of Law, Christ University (India).

Both IIUM Moot Teams were later announced to be among the top 64 teams and the only teams from Malaysia that are eligible to proceed with elimination rounds which will be held from 6th – 8th of March 2024 in AIAC, Kuala Lumpur.

IIUM mooters who are involved in this Pre-Moot competition are Muhammad Khairil Anwar bin Mohammad (4th year student), Wan Nur Irdina bt Wan Fadzil (4th year student), Alya Hadiera bt Harun (4th year student), Seri Munirah Salim (4th year student), Meor Danish Irfan bin Meor Sha’azizi (4th year student), Wan Tasnima Wan Mohsin (4th year student) and Wan Noor Farzana bt Wan Faizal (3rd year student). All of them are law students from Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, IIUM.
