JOHOR BAHRU, 1 October 2026 – The Kulliyyah of Education (KOED), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), made a strong presence at the Seminar Kebangsaan Majlis Dekan Pendidikan Universiti Awam (MEDC) 2026, held from 30 September to 1 October 2026 at Perpustakaan Raja Zarith Sofiah, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). Hosted by the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Technology (FEST), UTM, the seminar, themed “Transformasi Pendidikan Tinggi Masa Hadapan: Inovasi, Keterangkuman dan Impak,” brought together academics, researchers and education leaders from Malaysian public universities to exchange knowledge, share research and strengthen professional collaboration. KOED was represented by 11 presenters, including the Dean of KOED, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suhailah Hussien. The strong representation reflected KOED’s commitment to contributing actively to national scholarly discourse and collaborative efforts towards advancing education and teacher development in Malaysia. Alongside the seminar, the Majlis Dekan Pendidikan Universiti Awam (MEDC) convened its meeting, with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suhailah participating in her capacity as Dean of KOED and a member of MEDC. The meeting provided an important platform for Deans of Education from public universities to deliberate on matters of common interest, exchange perspectives and strengthen inter-university cooperation in addressing developments and challenges facing education and teacher preparation. The successful organisation of MEDC 2026 also demonstrated the importance of sustained collaboration among faculties of education across Malaysia. KOED congratulates FEST, UTM and the organising committee for successfully hosting the seminar and providing a valuable platform for scholarly exchange, networking and dialogue on the future of education. The momentum generated at UTM will continue in 2027, with Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) set to host the next MEDC National Seminar. The forthcoming seminar will provide another opportunity for education scholars and leaders to deepen existing collaborations, develop new partnerships and continue important conversations on the transformation of education in Malaysia. For KOED, participation in MEDC represents more than attendance at a national academic gathering. It reflects the Kulliyyah’s continuing commitment to contributing its scholarship, experience and educational perspectives to the wider Malaysian education community while building meaningful partnerships with fellow faculties of education. The Kulliyyah of Education (KOED), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), through the English Language Teaching Students’ Association (ELTSA), has successfully concluded Wings of Language: Banten Edition 2.0, an international educational outreach programme held from 12 to 19 September 2026 at Pondok Pesantren Modern Al-Mizan, Banten, Indonesia. Led by the ELTSA Advisor, Asst. Prof. Dr. Haziqah Zulaikha Aris, a delegation of 27 IIUM TESL students embarked on a meaningful journey of teaching, service and intercultural engagement, bringing the gift of language to 227 student participants. Throughout the programme, the students demonstrated remarkable adaptability, empathy and commitment to service, thoughtfully responding to the local context and adapting their teaching approaches to create an inclusive and engaging learning environment. Through their efforts, they encouraged participants to communicate in English with greater confidence while fostering meaningful connections across cultures. Beyond the classroom, the programme became a platform for intercultural learning, student leadership and community engagement. Through genuine interaction and peer learning, the IIUM students and their Indonesian counterparts built meaningful connections that extended beyond language, fostering mutual understanding and strengthening the bonds between Malaysia and Indonesia. Reflecting on the experience, Dr. Haziqah highlighted how international educational engagement allows students to move beyond the role of club representatives and grow as young educators, cultural bridge-builders and ambassadors of the university. Exposure to real-world educational contexts strengthened their adaptability, intercultural competence, leadership and ability to respond to challenges with ihsan and resilience. KOED celebrates the dedication, courage and spirit of service demonstrated by its TESL students, as well as the support of all partners who made this journey possible. May the educational bonds forged through Wings of Language continue to flourish, bringing lasting benefit to both communities and becoming a form of sadaqah jariyah through knowledge, service and shared humanity. The Kulliyyah of Education (KOED) presented its preliminary plans for the International Conference on Teacher Education in the Muslim World (ICTEM) 2027 to the Honourable Dato’ Sri Rector during a meeting on 15 September 2026. The presentation outlined the proposed conference’s vision, objectives, and implementation approach. Tentatively scheduled for 19–20 October 2027, ICTEM 2027 aims to serve as a landmark platform, bringing together educators, researchers, and policymakers from across the globe to advance discourse, innovation, and practices in teacher education. The proposed theme, “Empowering Teacher Educators through Tawhidic Education: Nurturing Ummatic Resilience in the 21st Century,” reflects the conference’s aspiration to strengthen scholarly collaboration and explore how Tawhidic education can empower teacher educators and nurture Ummatic resilience in addressing contemporary challenges. Further details regarding the call for papers, keynote speakers, and registration will be announced by KOED in due course.

GOMBAK, 4 August 2026 – The Kulliyyah of Education (KOED), IIUM, recently hosted Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nizamuddin Sadiq from the Department of English Language Education, Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII), Yogyakarta. He was received by Asst. Prof. Dr. Haziqah Zulaikha Aris, who shared a prior academic fellowship with him during their Ph.D. studies at the University of Southampton, England. The visit aimed to finalize a joint paper publication and establish broader academic partnerships between the two institutions. During the visit, both academics outlined key areas for future collaboration, focusing heavily on joint research and grant applications within the fields of Global Englishes and English Language Teaching (ELT). Their discussions also paved the way for cross-institutional staff exchanges, guest lecture opportunities, and student mobility initiatives connecting IIUM’s ELTSA and UII’s EDSA student associations. As an immediate outcome of the meeting, the two departments agreed to host a joint Online International Seminar in October 2026. This will be followed by staff and student mobility programs next year, including an official IIUM delegation visit to UII in Yogyakarta. The productive visit concluded with a courtesy photo session alongside Dr. Suhailah Hussien, the Dean of KOED.

GOMBAK, 14 July 2026 – The Department of Language and Literacy at the Kulliyyah of Education (KOED) recently welcomed a delegation from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia for a strategic meeting aimed at expanding regional academic partnerships. The primary objective of the visit was to explore new avenues for institutional cooperation. Representatives from both universities focused on three core areas, beginning with joint research collaboration to co-author academic publications and tackle modern challenges in literacy education. Additionally, the discussions highlighted staff mobility through visiting lecturer programs to share best teaching practices, as well as student mobility initiatives to give learners valuable global exposure. To ensure these goals become a reality, the session concluded with the official signing of a Letter of Intent. This serves as the initial step toward a formal Memorandum of Understanding, binding both institutions to a shared future of mutual growth. The partnership underscores the Kulliyyah of Education’s dedication to internationalization, promising to enrich the academic journey of students and educators alike.
