Bachelor of Nursing (Honours)
Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) is an undergraduate degree programme offered by Kulliyyah of Nursing, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). This programme has been designed to prepare nurses for entry-level professional practice and, at the same time, provide a strong basis for postgraduate study.
Programme Description
The programme is of four (4) years duration and incorporates a substantial amount of guided clinical practise in hospitals and health care settings as well as a range of campus-based theoretical and clinical-based teaching/learning activities.

Undergraduate Tuition Fees
1. Master of Advanced Nursing Practice
The Master of Advanced Nursing Practice programme is designed for the candidates to acquire knowledge, skills and competency in the specialised area. The programme requires a minimum of two years of full-time study basis.
Programme Description
Students in this programme will experience clinical responsibilities in terms of patients’ assessment, nursing diagnosis, patients’ care planning, interventions, and evaluation of outcomes under supervision by the specialist. In the first year of study, students will be equipped with a theoretical understanding relevant to the nursing discipline and advanced knowledge and skills in the specialised field. While in the second year, the students require to undergo clinical practicum in the specialised area. This programme also requires the student to conduct research and produce a dissertation prior to the final examination. Currently, Kulliyyah of Nursing offers three speciality areas of Master of Advanced Nursing Practice, including:
1. Master of Advanced Nursing Practice in Critical Care
2. Master of Advanced Nursing Practice in Emergency Care
3. Master of Advanced Nursing Practice in Renal Care
Duration of Study
2 years full time.
Entry requirements
· A relevant Bachelor’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent from IIUM or any other accredited institution of higher learning
OR
· Applications from candidates with other certificates that are recognized as equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or relevant professional qualifications (Registered Nurse) and experience that are recognized by the Senate of the University
AND
· Possess current Annual Practicing Certificate of Nursing in Malaysia WITH two to three years of clinical experience.
· Candidates must demonstrate a good command of the English Language. Our English language requirement is:
o TOEFL 500; or
o IELTS 5; or
o English Placement Test 5 (administered by the University)
· A relevant Award of Academic Qualifications (APEL Q) and APEL C qualifications upon Senate approval.

2. Master in Nursing Science
Master in Nursing Science (Research) aims to address issues and gaps identified in various fields of nursing including clinical and community settings. It also considers and attempts to contribute to the further development of nursing care through evidence-based practice and produce definite nursing guidelines to enhance the quality of care in Malaysia.
Programme Description
The programme would facilitate the enrolment of Bachelor Degree holders who intend to pursue research at a higher level and support them to be advanced practice nurses to work as academicians, researchers, and nurse practitioners. At the end of this programme, the graduates are expected to be able to contribute to the nursing practice through evidence base in improving the quality of nursing care provision and quality of life of the patients and their significant others.

3. Master in Health Sciences
This programme was developed in line with the development in Biobehavioural Health Sciences research area recently with the main theme is the translation of research findings into clinical practice, through clinical trials of behavioural interventions on vulnerable individuals and populations. The multidisciplinary research area focuses on the identification of biological, psychological and social factors associated with developmental risk and resiliency inpatients and communities, and the development of innovative interventions that will promote health and quality of life. Mostly the research area will utilise thoroughly humans as the research sample namely from tissue, blood or even perception and feelings.
Programme Description
This course is aimed at Bachelor Degree holders who intend to pursue research at a higher level and also personnel from the work sector who would like to be engaged in research with the intention of updating knowledge as well as a means of personal development. The programme is aimed to introduce excellence in a novel area of Biobehavioural Health Sciences and attain optimal satisfaction research environment incorporate with Islamic value. Furthermore, this programme also would integrate research encompassing biological, behavioural, social-cultural and environmental elements used in solving patient care problems. The specialisation of this programme would be Biobehavioural Health Science which will be included in the transcript.
Duration of Study
2 years full time or 4 years part-time program (normal progression)/ research mode under academic supervision.

· A Bachelor Degree in relevant Health and Social Sciences programs with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent or other qualifications recognized by the Kulliyyah and the University.

4. Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing programme introduces the novel niche in nursing research activities that will involve various nursing fields. This programme would facilitate the enrolment of students for Master Degree holders who intend to pursue research at a higher degree level.
Programme Description
This research-focused doctoral programme will promote the development of a cognitive style that emphasizes abstract thinking and critical analysis of the research findings for building knowledge that advances culturally competent nursing and nursing education. The programme aims to inculcate the Islamic knowledge and value in nursing art and science for the nature and future of humankind. The fundamental concern is to promote human wellbeing at an individual, local and global level within a sustainable environment. As such, this program is different from other interdisciplinary educational initiatives in that its curriculum is purposely designed rather than simply an amalgamation of existing disciplines.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Syamsul Ahmad Arifin
Expertise: My expertise are in molecular pharmacology and cell biology related to the endocrine system. I am also interested in a behavioural study using animal models and human genetics study of diabetes.
Research Interest: As a psychopharmacology scientist, I have an interest in integrative biobehavioral research on the effect of drugs and their relationship with the mind and behaviour. Examples include multidisciplinary research on the effect of drugs on human responses to illness and interrelationships of psychosocial, behaviour and biological process.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Lokman Md Isa
Expertise: Molecular genetics; cell interaction which involved human reproductive hormones study. Stem cell technology; Human germ cell development & spermatogenesis from stem cells, regenerative medicine stem cell and andrology study. Principle of pharmacology (Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic). Quantitative and qualitative research related to population and behavioural study of reproductive and man infertility
Research Interest: My principal research interest is stem cell technology which involves human germ cell development & spermatogenesis from stem cells. Primary cell culture derivation and primary to cell line development. Animal study related to reproductive science. Biobanking and cloning technology for endangered species of animal. A population study of reproductive and man infertility, psychology and drug addiction.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Noratikah Othman
Expertise: My expertise are in bioinformatics/computational biology that involved the study of the evolution of protein/genes (construction of phylogenetic tree) and protein modelling. I am also an expert in molecular microbiology and DNA recombinant including cloning, genetic modification such as mutation, insertion and deletion.
Research Interest: Collaborative interdisciplinary research focuses on how genetics, behavioural, and environmental variables interact to influence health.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Norlinda Binti Abd. Rashid
Expertise: Neuroanatomy; molecular neuroscience; cellular imaging and biology of the gastrointestinal and nervous systems; hippocampal learning and memory; neurobehavioural study using animal models; human anatomy and physiology.
Research Interest: My research interests are in the area of neuroscience, focusing on the neurobiology of sleep, learning and memory, hippocampus, neurobehaviour, proteomics, microscopic studies (light, scanning and transmission electron microscopy) and natural products. I also have interests in nursing education, particularly in women’s health practise based on the Health Belief Model.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohd Hanif Bin Jainlabdin
Expertise: I specialise in developing PCR diagnostic assays for mycoses, such as Aspergillosis, Candidiasis and Fusariosis infections in humans. In addition, I have expertise in validating nucleic acid purification methods for the recovery of fungal DNA from blood and serum samples.
Research Interest: Accurate diagnosis and therapies are essential to reduce the mortality rates and reflect reliable epidemiological data for the successful delivery of the local antimicrobial resistance (AMR) agenda. Molecular methods based on nucleic acid detection from biological samples are promising as they can provide rapid, specific and sensitive results. My research focuses on developing, implementing, and validating molecular diagnostic platforms for clinical use. In addition, I aim to develop a point-of-care diagnostic technology that is amenable to future automation.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Redzuan Nul Hakim bin Abdul Razakn
Expertise: In vivo and in vitro study, antioxidant analysis, spermatogenesis and sperm analysis, quantitative polymerase chain reaction, high-performance liquid chromatography analysis, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, fetal skeletal examination, DNA damage analysis, microscopic and electron microscopic imaging analysis.
Research Interest: I have a great interest in the efficacy analysis of natural products, general and system-specific toxicological analysis, developmental and reproductive biology, epigenetic and andrology. Currently, working on endangered species conservation via the application of assisted reproductive technology.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Tengku Faris
Expertise: Stem cell research includes induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and embryonic stem cells (ESCs); genetic disease models using CRISPR/Cas9; organogenesis; genomics; cellular reprogramming; MODY5; multicystic kidney disease; genotoxicity of nanoparticles; Islamic ethical framework in the use of stem cells; the use virtual reality in healthcare.
Research interest: I have a long-term interest in modelling genetic diseases using stem cells. This includes the manipulation of genes in the early stages of human development. My focus is to correct faulty genes that contributed to genetic diseases. I am also interested in the analysis of neurobehavioral and neurodevelopmental patterns in adolescence; and pathomechanism of chronic kidney disease.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Azmir Bin Ahmad
Expertise: Polymerase chain reaction, short interfering RNA (siRNA), minimally- and non-invasive molecular diagnostic and biomarker discovery.
Research interest: My research interest is basically on early detection of diseases, mainly cancers, through minimally- and non-invasive techniques. Even though my experiences are mostly on molecular diagnostic, other techniques for early detection, such as self-examination techniques for testicular and breast cancers, are also within my interest. Other than that, I also have an interest in the use of stingless bee products, including honey, bee bread and propolis, for various diseases and healthcare.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Shidqiyyah Binti Abd Hamid
Expertise: Molecular biology, cloning, cellular signalling in cancer and immune system, in vitro cancer cell study.
Research Interest: I am interested to study the effect of natural product treatments, especially sunnah foods and local products on cancer cells behaviour, signalling, and epigenetic changes. I am also interested to study human biobehavioral health, focusing on supplements and medications consumption behaviour in relation to overall health status.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Nurhazirah Binti Zainul Azlan
Expertise: Plant extraction, phytochemical analysis, Chlorella vulgaris cultivation, cell culture, human skeletal muscle myoblasts (HSMM) serial passaging, myogenic purity and differentiation, myogenin expression, cell real-time monitoring, senescence biomarkers, cell viability assay, cell cycle, ELISA assay, immunofluorescence staining, RNA extraction, primer design, gene expressions by RT-PCR, myomiRs expression, acute oral toxicity study based on Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Guidelines, animal study – induction of diabetes, blood extraction from rat, euthanization, necropsy, histology, grip strength of front and hind paws, bone density, open field test, urine and blood collection, urinary, plasma and skeletal muscle oxidative stress.
Research interest: Analysis of natural products properties – medicinal, antioxidant, antidiabetic and others. Muscle regeneration pathway study in both cell culture and animal model. Ageing-related degenerative disease. Currently, working on the conservation of endangered species by optimization of sample collection procedures from dead endangered species and sequencing its genetic profile.
