The department has offered the following courses: Undergraduate students currently can enrol for three other courses based on their interest: Elective: Orthopaedic Nursing Rehabilitation, Elective: Smoking Cessation and Elective: Stoma Care. The courses were offered according to the expertise of the department’s staff. The number of elective courses to be offered might be increased depending on demand. In addition, the department offers a new Master of Advanced Nursing Practice (MAP) in Renal Care programme and plans to offer additional postgraduate programmes soon. The department believes each student is a unique being whose intellectual, developmental, and clinical competencies and attributes affect his or her ability to seek relevant learning information and resources in order to be assertive in critical thinking and make decisions using evidence-based information for nursing care. While society is comprised of individuals from diverse backgrounds, each graduate is empowered to contribute to society by advocating for the needs of individuals and their families for health promotion, disease prevention, rehabilitative and therapeutic treatment of acute and chronic illness at all levels of the health care environment and settings, and by promoting active participation in self-care management. Therefore, the department will sustain academic excellence based on the Sejahtera Academic Framework (SAF) and the development of competent nurses in the medical-surgical field who are committed to adult health practice, leadership, community, and research both nationally and internationally. Through the implementation and sustainability of quality certification courses in educational programmes for nursing students, it will empower professional nurses in the medical surgical field who are creative and able to apply knowledge, skills, and evidence-based research to promote holistic adult care for the betterment of Ummah.
