Brief Introduction 

The Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) is designed to cultivate skilled, compassionate and ethically and well-grounded physiotherapist dedicated to excellence and societal contribution. The curriculum emphasis on sustainable practices and innovative approaches, that focuses on fast-forward thinking solutions for societal progress. This programme also fosters a strong sense of social responsibility and ethical practice. Integral to the program, students are required to conduct a final year research project which develop their critical thinking and analytic skills. This research component ensure that the students will uphold high professional standards and make meaningful contributions to the field.

Program Outcome

Program Educational Outcome (PEO)
After successfully completing the programme, our graduates are:

  • PEO 1: Physiotherapists who are knowledgeable, skilful and able to make a professional decision as a team involved in the health care services.
  • PEO 2: Physiotherapists who can communicate effectively in managing patients and possess quality leadership in an organization.
  • PEO 3: Competent physiotherapists with the ability to optimize the use of technology in assessing, analysing, managing patients.
  • PEO 4: Physiotherapists who fulfil the government’s aspiration in health services towards the public in terms of improving accessibility, quality and effective health care in the nation based on evidence.
  • PEO 5: Physiotherapists who integrate faith, knowledge and good character in their lives in accordance with the vision and mission of the university and accountable to society.

Program Learning Outcome (PLO)
At the end of the programme, student shall be able to:

  • PLO 1: Discuss theoretical and technical physiotherapy knowledge towards the application of physiotherapy services. 
  • PLO 2: Demonstrate physiotherapy knowledge and skills in providing effective care for clients. 
  • PLO 3: Demonstrate safe and competent physiotherapy practical skills in managing clients.
  • PLO 4: Practice effective interpersonal skills among team members in managing care for clients.
  • PLO 5: Convey effective and clear communication skills towards the application of physiotherapy services in difference range of situation. 
  • PLO 6: Apply digital technology skills to support physiotherapy services in managing clients. 
  • PLO 7: Demonstrate basic numeracy and statistical skills in relevant working/research and daily environment.
  • PLO 8: Practice responsible leadership and autonomy in peer and managerial skills to provide effective care for clients. 
  • PLO 9: Display good personal skills and proper etiquette with sound entrepreneurial qualities in physiotherapy services.
  • PLO 10: Apply legal, ethical principles and professional code of conduct in physiotherapy services. 
  • PLO 11: Integrate Islamic values in clients’ management and personal conduct.

Graduating with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) offers various career opportunities, including working as a physiotherapist in hospitals, clinics, or private practices, specializing in areas like musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary, neurology, sports, paediatrics, geriatrics, women & men health care and other related field. You may also pursue roles in academia, research, healthcare management, corporate wellness, or entrepreneurship.

Program Structure

The Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) at IIUM Kuantan is a full-time course designed to be completed in a minimum of four years (8 semesters) and a maximum of six years (12 semesters). The program follows a semester-based structure, adhering to the standards recognised by local and international physiotherapy bodies. This program includes variety of components such as lectures, problem-based learning, practical sessions, elective postings, clinical placement and final year research projects.

Duration of Study

The program is completed for a minimum of four years (8 semesters) and up to six years (12 semesters) maximum of a full-time study period.
