Kuala Lumpur, 11 August 2024. In a remarkable showcase of advocacy skills, the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) team has emerged as the second runner-up at the 19th LAWASIA International Moot Competition (National Rounds) 2024, hosted at the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) in Kuala Lumpur. This prestigious competition brought together 16 teams from 10 prominent law schools across Malaysia. Both IIUM teams demonstrated exceptional legal acumen and strategic prowess, with one team ultimately achieving the distinguished 2nd runner-up spot after advancing through a highly competitive semi-final stage.
In addition to their competitive success, the IIUM team was honoured with the LAWASIA Spirit Award for 2 consecutive years. This distinction recognizes the team that best exemplifies the ideals of fair play, camaraderie, magnanimity, and generosity in the competition environment. Both IIUM teams played a significant role in elevating the competitive spirit of the event, with each team advancing to the semi-finals and demonstrating exceptional legal knowledge and proficiency.
Moreover, the IIUM mooting team’s outstanding accomplishment has secured them the prestigious opportunity to represent Malaysia on the international stage. They have qualified for the forthcoming international round, which will be held at AIAC in Kuala Lumpur this October. Their participation in this esteemed event highlights not only their individual skills but also underscores Malaysia’s emerging talent in international law.
