Gombak, 2 August 2022. Participants of the “Roundtable Discussion on TPNW and Malaysia: Humanitarian and Multidisciplinary Approaches to Post-Ratification” observe that targeted research projects that are aligned with the government’s priorities are necessary to advance the cause of prohibition of nuclear weapons not only by Malaysia but by all states. It is also important that awareness-raising programmes among the youth should continue in earnest
In partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) organise the roundtable discussion in the margins of the Conference to identify potential areas and foster cooperation between government, academic and humanitarian actors in Malaysia in the national implementation and universalization of the TPNW.
Officers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Malaysian Nuclear Agency, the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS Malaysia), MRCS, ICRC, academics from IIUM Kulliyyah of laws and medicine and the IIUM Climate Change Policy and Law Centre participate in the lively and fruitful discussion.
The closed-door discussion is held in conjunction with the Conference Pertaining to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW): National Implementation and the Role of Youth.
