INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ADDRESSES ISRAELI WAR IN GAZA AND INTERNATIONAL LAW VIOLATIONS

Gombak, 16 October 2025 – The Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), hosted an international symposium entitled “Israeli War in Gaza: Genocide Defying International Law” at the Nawawi Conference Hall, Level 4, AIKOL.

This high-level discourse aims to examine the ongoing atrocities in Gaza through the lens of international humanitarian law, genocide prevention frameworks, and the accountability of state and non-state actors in situations of armed conflict. The symposium highlights IIUM’s strong commitment to voicing global humanitarian concerns and promoting justice in line with international legal standards.

The event will feature distinguished scholars from Algeria and Malaysia. Prof. Dr. Nasreddine Bousmaha and Prof. Dr. Fayçal Benzahaf from the University of Oran2, Algeria, will present expert perspectives on the legal implications of the conflict and the challenges in enforcing international accountability. They will be joined by Dr. Mohammed R. M. Elshobake from AIKOL, IIUM, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Syaza Farhana Binti Mohamad Shukri from AHAS KIRKHS, IIUM, who will contribute insights grounded in legal scholarship and contemporary political analysis. The session will be moderated by Norlaili Binti Mat Isa of the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws.

The symposium seeks to deepen academic understanding of the legal ramifications of the Israel–Palestine conflict, particularly in relation to allegations of genocide and systemic violations of human rights. It will also explore potential mechanisms for international accountability and the pivotal role of global institutions in safeguarding civilian populations.

This initiative reinforces AIKOL’s mission to foster informed scholarly engagement with pressing humanitarian crises, while advancing legal discourse that upholds the principles of peace, justice, and global solidarity.
