"A Continuing Commitment to Student Well-Being"

Since its inception in September 2022, the Kulliyyah of Nursing Free Breakfast Programme has been making a meaningful impact on students at the Kulliyyah of Nursing, IIUM. Organised by the Clinical Skills Centre (CSC), this ongoing initiative provides free breakfasts to students, particularly those in need, in a non-judgemental and inclusive environment. Depending on daily contributions, the programme operates almost every day from 8:00 am to 11:30 am and aims to address food insecurity among students while promoting better health, academic performance, and stronger community ties.

Objectives and Vision

The Free Breakfast Program was established with clear goals:
1️⃣ To ensure all students, especially those in financial need, have access to breakfast without stigma.
2️⃣ To encourage healthier eating habits by providing balanced and nutritious meals.
3️⃣ To offer indirect academic and emotional support, enabling students to perform at their best.
4️⃣ To strengthen the bond between students and staff, fostering a collaborative and caring community.

How the Program Works?

The program’s success relies on the dedication and generosity of the staff and sponsors. Meals are provided through three main methods:

  • Prepared by Staff:
Meals are cooked at home or on-site at the CSC.
  • Purchased by Staff:
Ready-made meals are bought by staff and distributed.
  • Delivered by Runners:
Meals are occasionally delivered to the CSC by volunteers or delivery services.

Funding for the program is sustained through individual contributions and sponsorships, with its continuity dependent on ongoing support from donors.

Gratitude to KON Lecturers and Staff

The Kulliyyah expresses heartfelt gratitude to all lecturers and staff members who have consistently contributed to the success of this initiative. Their generous donations—whether monetary, food supplies, or their time—have been the backbone of the program. Their unwavering support has ensured its continuity, enabling students to benefit from this much-needed initiative.

Impact Since 2022

Since it began in September 2022, the Free Breakfast Program has consistently helped students start their day on a positive note. Many students have shared how the initiative has eased their financial burdens, improved their focus in classes, and provided them with a much-needed sense of belonging and support. By addressing the fundamental needs of students, the program has not only enhanced their academic performance but also fostered a nurturing environment within the kulliyyah.

Sustainability and Future Goals

As the programme continues, the Clinical Skills Centre (CSC) remains committed to maintaining its operations and exploring ways to expand its reach. The staff and organisers remain optimistic about securing further sponsorships to ensure no student begins their day on an empty stomach. The Kulliyyah of Nursing Free Breakfast Programme exemplifies the Islamic principle of ukhuwwah (brotherhood) and the value of sadaqah (charity), reflecting IIUM’s commitment to holistic student development. By offering this act of kindness, the programme aligns with the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who said:

“The best of people are those who are most beneficial to others.”
(Narrated by Ahmad, ath-Thabarani, ad-Al-Daruqutni).

Through compassion, generosity, and a shared commitment to well-being, this initiative continues to make a lasting impact on the lives of its students, fostering a supportive and inclusive community that embodies the essence of Islamic values.
