Brief introduction

Master in Information Technology (MITEC) is offered by the Department of Information Systems (DIS) at KICT.

The Master of Information Technology aims to develop a new breed of professional who not only can demonstrate mastery at an advanced level of IT Skills, but also competent in charting out strategic decisions as well as improving and upgrading organizational performances. It also aims to produce well-rounded intellectuals and professionals who are committed to the promotion of Islamic principles and disciplines and are innovative and creative to integrate new ideas with established contemporary knowledge.

The programme orientation is expected to produce a new breed of IT professionals  that are capable to understand the rapid technical development in IT and how IT can be instrumental in the growth of their respective organizations. Program Structure

1. Master in Information Technology (Coursework)

The Master in Information Technology by Coursework programme requires 42 credit hours to graduate.
 
Students are required to complete five (5) Core Module courses consist of Kulliyyah required courses (8 credit hours) and Department Required Courses (12 credit hours). 
 
The core module courses are (i) Kulliyyah Required (2 courses) – Islamic Worldview and Research Methodology (ii) Department Required (3 courses) – Analytics and Visualisation, IT Project Management and Methodologies, and Digital Professional Practices. Students will be able to choose any three (3) of elective courses (12 credit hours) and finally students are required to complete Computing project with 10 credit hours.

2. Master in Information Technology (Mixed mode)

The Master in Information Technology by Mixed Mode programme requires 40 credit hours to graduate.
 
Students are required to complete three (3) Core Module courses consist of Kulliyyah required courses (8 credit hours) and Department Required Courses (4 credit hours). 
 
The core module courses are (i) Kulliyyah Required (2 courses) – Islamic Worldview and Research Methodology (ii) Department Required (1 course – select only one from the three courses) – Analytics and Visualisation, IT Project Management and Methodologies, and Digital Professional Practices. Finally, students are required to complete Master Dissertation: IT Research Proposal and IT Dissertation with 28 credit hours.
 
For MITEC by Research and Coursework (Mixed Mode), the composition of the programme consists of 70% research and 30% coursework.

Duration of Study

The programme is offered via full time and also part time mode. The full time programme would normally require of one and half (1.5) years (3 semesters) study duration and the maximum of 3 years (6 semesters).

The part time programme would normally require four (4) years (8 semesters). The maximum period allowed for the completion of the programme is 5 years (10 semesters).
