The Department of Library & Information Science (DLIS), Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology (KICT), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), is committed to advancing scholarship, professional excellence, and ethical leadership in the field of library and information science. Established in 1992, the department has developed postgraduate education and academic expertise in preparing information professionals equipped with contemporary knowledge, practical competencies, and Islamic values. The department currently offers postgraduate programmes leading to Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Library and Information Science.

About the Department

DLIS was established in 1992 with the offering of the Master in Library and Information Science for full-time and part-time students. The programme was initially designed to strengthen the competency of existing librarians while also developing new information professionals for a changing knowledge environment. The doctoral programme in Library and Information Science was introduced subsequently. The department was originally under the Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (KIRKHS) and became one of the initial departments under KICT following the approval of KICT’s establishment on 1 November 2002.
