Program Structure

This is a research-based programme, consisting of full research (100%) work leading to thesis submission. Students are required to present and defend the research proposal in Semester 1. Assessment will be based on the submitted thesis and viva-voce. All details regarding the research proposal and thesis submission are according to IIUM Postgraduate Regulations (Revised 2020) handbook. Students also need to fulfil the minimum publication requirement as stipulated by the university a graduation requirement.

Courses

Students are required to attend Research Methodology (COURSE CODE: DENT 8201) and Unified Islamic Input (COURSE CODE: DENT 8202). Both courses are audit-based.

Entry Requirements

General Requirement

In accordance with the IIUM Postgraduate Regulations (Revised 2020).

Specific Requirements

  • Obtain a master’s degree in a relevant field of Science or Health Sciences with good results from IIUM or other recognized Higher Learning Institutions or obtain other recognized qualifications equivalent to a master’s degree or have relevant professional qualifications and experience recognized by the University’s Senate.
  • Appropriate research proposals are required for application for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy Degree.

English Proficiency Certificate

  • TOEFL-minimum 550 (paper-based); or
  • IELTS – Minimum Band 6.0; or
  • IIUM English Placement Test (EPT) – minimum 6.0
  • However, exemptions for English language proficiency certificates may be granted to students who have taken the program and graduated from universities that use English as a medium of instruction in English-speaking countries or students who graduated from IIUM from programs that use English as a medium of instruction (IIUM Postgraduate Regulation (revised 2020; point 1.4.1.2)
