Inbound Student Mobility Programme Strengthens IIUM–UMY Academic Partnership

Inbound Student Mobility Programme between Kulliyyah of Nursing IIUM and Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta
Location: Kulliyyah of Nursing, IIUM, Kuantan, Pahang.
The Inbound Student Mobility Programme was successfully conducted from 15th September to 11th October 2025 , continuing the strong academic partnership between the Kulliyyah of Nursing, IIUM and Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Indonesia.

This year’s programme primarily involved two key departments from KON — the Medical-Surgical Nursing (MSN) and Specialised Clinical Nursing (SCN) departments. The initiative was jointly led by Dr. Nik Noor Kaussar and her team from the MSN Department, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aniawanis and her dedicated team from the Department of Special Care Nursing, Kulliyyah of Nursing, IIUM.

Medical-Surgical Nursing

The Medical-Surgical Nursing Department played an important role in coordinating the academic and experiential components of the inbound mobility programme. The initiative was led by Dr. Nik Noor Kaussar together with her team, contributing to the participants’ learning experience throughout their stay at IIUM Kuantan.

Specialised Clinical Nursing

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aniawanis and her dedicated team from the Department of Special Care Nursing also played a key role in the programme, contributing their expertise and supporting the academic, clinical and experiential learning activities undertaken by the participants.

Lectures and Workshops

Participants attended lectures and workshops alongside local nursing students, providing opportunities for knowledge sharing, academic interaction and collaborative learning across different educational backgrounds.

Community Engagement

Participants took part in community engagement programmes across Pahang, allowing them to experience healthcare, nursing and community-based activities within the local Malaysian context.

Institutional Visits

Visits to health and educational institutions offered valuable clinical, academic and cultural exposure, enabling participants to gain broader perspectives on healthcare and nursing education in Malaysia.

Case Studies and Collaborative Projects

Participants presented case studies and collaborative projects, showcasing cross-cultural perspectives in nursing education while encouraging discussion, teamwork and the exchange of professional perspectives.

Throughout their month-long stay in Kuantan, participants engaged in a variety of academic and experiential learning activities, including lectures and workshops alongside local nursing students, community engagement programmes across Pahang, visits to health and educational institutions, and presentations of case studies and collaborative projects that showcased cross-cultural perspectives in nursing education.

Knowledge Exchange and Professional Development

The programme served as a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, intercultural understanding and professional development. It also strengthened the long-standing collaboration between IIUM and UMY, providing meaningful opportunities for students and academics to learn from one another while expanding their understanding of nursing education across different cultural and professional contexts.

Through this continuing collaboration, both institutions contribute towards nurturing future nurses who are professionally competent, culturally responsive and committed to compassionate healthcare practice.

Alhamdulillah, the programme was conducted smoothly, and it is hoped that all intended objectives have been fully achieved. Both institutions look forward to continuing this meaningful collaboration, nurturing future nurses who embody global competency and Islamic compassion.
