Organized by the Mainboard of Nursing Students’ Society (NurSS), Kulliyyah of Nursing, in collaboration with KPJ University & KPJ Ampang Puteri, Thomson Hospital, Sunway Medical Centre Velocity, and Nasi Lemak Saleha, the “Nursing Trip: Education in Motion” held from the 19th to the 21st of October 2023 was a resounding success. The trip, meticulously planned and executed, aimed to invigorate nursing students’ academic motivation, foster stronger bonds with external healthcare organizations, provide firsthand experience of educational environments in different facilities, and offer a glimpse into future professional settings and opportunities.
Accompanied by Dr. Rusila Ruslan and Sr. Normazatul Afieda Ahmad Zabik, students were immersed in a rich learning experience every step of the way. They gained invaluable insights into various hospital facilities, witnessed the implementation of cutting-edge technologies, and learned about emerging healthcare practices. We were able to witness firsthand the incredible advancements in healthcare technology. Some of the technologies were entirely new to us, and it was eye-opening. This trip not only broadened our understanding but also ignited a sense of excitement about the future of nursing.”
During their visit, students were granted the invaluable opportunity to tour some departments of the hospitals such as the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Emergency Department, Imaging Department, and Cardiac Catheterization Lab. Here, they were provided with in-depth explanations on the hospital’s adoption of cutting-edge systems, particularly in vital signs monitoring and drug administration. These advancements stand as a testament to the institution’s unwavering commitment to elevating patient safety and overall service quality. Witnessing these implementations firsthand allowed the students to appreciate the profound impact of technology on modern healthcare practices. This exposure reinforced the importance of staying abreast of progressive innovations within the nursing profession.
Additionally, students delved into the workings of iodixanol, gaining practical insights into its application. This experience offered a unique glimpse into specialized medical procedures, showcasing the hospital’s dedication to advanced and precise patient care. Nur Izzati also hopes that her fellow friends, the students of Kulliyyah of Nursing, will internalize the positivity garnered from the trip, transforming their work environments into sources of inspiration beyond mere remuneration. From this trip, she hopes that all students may realize that nursing career is not about financial gains, but also about embracing opportunities that contribute to personal and professional growth. This successful endeavor has paved the way for future trips, potentially involving a larger pool of students, to further enhance their education and professional development.
