Welcome to the Office of Research and Innovation.

Asst. Prof. Ts. Dr. Hazwani Bt Mohd Mohadis

Head of Research & Innovation(Ho RI)

It is my great pleasure to present the research strength and international outlook of the Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology (KICT), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Our research is guided by the university’s philosophy of integration, Islamization, internationalization, and comprehensive excellence, ensuring that the knowledge we generate contributes both to scholarly advancement and to the betterment of society.

KICT is home to a vibrant community of researchers working across 13 dedicated Research Units, covering diverse areas such as Computational Intelligence, Smart Data Analytics, Perceptive and Sentiment Computing, Pervasive Computing for Brain Development, Cybersecurity, Information Assurance & Security, Semantic Body of Knowledge and Technology, Smart Learning & Innovation, Blockchain, Distributed Ledger Technology & Applications, ICT & Islam, Digital Humanities, Internet & Governance and Software Engineering. This diversity reflects our commitment to innovation, interdisciplinarity, and societal relevance.

Our strongest regional partnerships are with universities in Indonesia, where collaboration spans a wide range of activities such as joint research grants (with Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia, Universitas Raharja, and Universitas Semarang), co-organizing international conferences (such as ICCIT, IICRO, ICCED, and CITSM), staff and student mobility programs, guest lecture series, and visiting researchers. These initiatives have enriched our academic community and fostered a spirit of cross-border knowledge sharing.

Beyond Indonesia, we also engage with global partners such as Strokelab BV (Netherlands), through the establishment of the  Neurocoach Digital Lab  to advance EEG- based neurofeedback research, and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), Australia, through a cyber resilience project to strengthen Malaysia’s cyber leadership and capacity building.

At the same time, KICT is proud to contribute to the development of the digital creative industry through initiatives in digital games and e-sports. In collaboration with  GamesMY , we are advancing research and innovation in game-based learning, digital entertainment, and e-sports development, nurturing talent that can thrive in this dynamic and competitive field.

As we look ahead, we warmly welcome collaboration with international partners, universities, industries, and communities. We believe that impactful research is best achieved when ideas, cultures, and disciplines converge. Together, we can co-create knowledge and innovations that transcend borders and benefit humanity.

Research activities in KICT are coordinated by the Head of Research’s office, which was established in 1991 with an objective to promote research activities within the University, and to disseminate research findings through publications, consulting services, training programmes, seminars and other electronic and print media.

There are several research grants and funding provided by the University and Government in order to promote the research culture in the university and in the country. For further details please refer to the Research Center as part of the Kulliyyah’s Strategic Plan (2003-2010), KICT promotes research culture among its members.

Our researchers are aiming for larger-scale research grants and trying to seek collaborations with other Kulliyyahs and institutions, journal and book publications, seminars as well as active involvement of postgraduate students. KICT has established 8 research groups with the major objective to promote research activities at the Kulliyyah.
