The Kulliyyah of Nursing (KON) Ibadah Camp 2025, held on 20th and 21st March 2025, was a truly joyous and meaningful occasion as it coincided with the holy month of Ramadan. This year’s camp was filled with spiritual activities that strengthened faith, unity, and devotion among participants.

Day 1: Knowledge, Reflection and Grand Iftar

Thursday, 20 March 2025

The event kicked off on Thursday afternoon with registration and a welcoming gift session, followed by the recitation of Asma’ul Husna and Du'a, led by Dr. Azmir Ahmad.

The camp was officially inaugurated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamil bin Che Hasan, Dean of KON, and was made even more special with a group photography session featuring the theme “Baju Raya”.

Participants benefited from an inspiring lecture on overcoming ethical problems in education, delivered by Ustaz Alif Zainuddin from the Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS), IIUM.

Later, another thought-provoking lecture titled “Malais of the Ummah” was presented by Ustaz Rifa’e, addressing contemporary challenges faced by Muslims.

One of the highlights of the camp was the Grand Iftar, bringing the KON community together to break their fast in an atmosphere of unity, gratitude and spiritual fellowship.

The evening continued with a Congregational Maghrib prayer, followed by a special Tarawih prayer, where all KON staff joined together in devotion during the blessed month of Ramadan.

Day 2: Qiyamullail, Tazkirah and Spiritual Reflection

Friday, 21 March 2025

On Friday, the participants engaged in an uplifting Qiyamullail at SHAS Mosque, IIUM Kuantan, before partaking in Suhoor and performing Subuh prayer.

A Tazkirah session focusing on justice in gender issues, cleanliness, and environmental care was then delivered by Ustaz Ahmad Fuaad bin Abdul Rahman from YADIM.

Celebrating Creativity, Ukhuwwah and Continuity

The camp concluded with the announcement of the video competition winners, where Group 8 emerged as the champion.

This was followed by a closing ceremony, during which the HOD delivered a speech and officially passed over the lights of Ibadah Camp to the next team, symbolising continuity of the programme and its spiritual mission.

The event ended with a “Forgive & Forget” session, where participants reflected on their experiences and strengthened their bonds with one another.

May all who attended reap immense rewards from this spiritually enriching programme and continue to uphold the values of Islam in their daily lives.

The KON Ibadah Camp 2025 served not only as a platform for religious learning and reflection, but also as a meaningful opportunity to strengthen faith, ukhuwwah and togetherness among the Kulliyyah of Nursing community.

IIUM Nursing Expands Global Collaboration Through GCNEP 2025 in Davao City

The Kulliyyah of Nursing, IIUM participated in an outbound mobility programme at the College of Nursing, University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC), Davao City. The five-day programme provided a platform for academic collaboration, research sharing and community engagement, fostering international partnerships in nursing education.

Opening Programme and Institutional Engagement

The Kulliyyah of Nursing, IIUM delegation joined the Opening Program of GCNEP 2025 on the first day of the programme, where they were warmly welcomed through institutional visits.

The programme included a courtesy visit to the University President’s Office, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and the Consulate General of Malaysia in Davao City. A tour across UIC’s three campuses also allowed the delegates to gain valuable insights into the university’s nursing education, academic environment and facilities.

Community Immersion in Davao City

During the second day, the delegation took part in a Community Immersion Program at Barangay Buhangin and Zonta Village, Davao City.

This engagement allowed the IIUM delegates to observe and experience firsthand the community healthcare system in the Philippines, while exchanging ideas on how nursing interventions can improve healthcare services at the grassroots level.

Special Lecture and Research Sharing

The programme continued with the Special Lecture and Research Sharing Day, featuring insightful presentations. These sessions created opportunities for participants to explore contemporary issues in nursing practice, mental health, community care and research.

Dr. Nurasikin Mohamad Shariff delivered a lecture on “Spirituality and Spiritual Care as Preventive Measures in Mental Health.”

Dr. Amirah Fatin Ibrahim shared her research on “Community-Based Participatory Research” to enhance healthcare accessibility for the elderly.

The session was followed by Networking and Engagement Activities, where the IIUM delegates connected with faculty members and students from UIC and other participating institutions. These interactions strengthened professional networks and opened opportunities for future academic and research collaboration.

Research and Joint Publication Meeting

On the following day, IIUM delegates participated in the Research and Joint Publication Meeting, where they collaborated with UIC researchers to brainstorm research ideas, establish methodologies and discuss potential joint publications.

The session aimed to develop high-impact nursing research and strengthen academic collaboration between the participating institutions.

Guest Lecture and Research Sharing with Invited HEIs

In the afternoon, the delegation attended the Guest Lecture and Research Sharing Session with Invited Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The programme brought together nursing scholars to share knowledge and perspectives on important contemporary healthcare issues.

Dr. Ashikin Atan discussed “Ethical Issues in Nursing Education.”

Dr. Lee Siew Piern presented on “Children’s Voice in Healthcare: Enhancing Participation in Nursing Care Decisions.”

Dr. Siti Hazarah Abdul Hamid addressed “Adolescents’ Sexual and Reproductive Health: Dual Responsibility for Family and Health System.”

The presentations provided valuable perspectives on nursing ethics, child participation and adolescent health , supporting wider professional discourse and knowledge exchange.

Through community immersion, academic lectures, research sharing, institutional visits and professional networking, the programme provided IIUM delegates with meaningful exposure to nursing education and healthcare practices within an international and cross-cultural environment.

Closing Programme of GCNEP 2025

The programme concluded on 28th February 2025 with the Closing Program of GCNEP 2025 (Phase 2), where key takeaways were summarised and future research collaborations were outlined.

A Final City Tour allowed delegates to explore the cultural and historical heritage of Davao City, providing an enriching cultural experience while fostering stronger international camaraderie among participants.

Staff Mobility Programme Strengthens IIUM–Walailak University Academic and Research Collaboration

The Kulliyyah of Nursing, IIUM recently had the privilege of participating in a remarkable Staff Mobility Programme at Walailak University (WU), Thailand. The programme, held from 24th to 28th February 2025, brought together faculty members from both institutions for a series of academic workshops, community visits and collaborative exchanges aimed at enhancing research capacity and strengthening international partnerships.

The delegation from the Kulliyyah of Nursing, IIUM, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamil Che Hasan, alongside Prof. Dr. Mohd Said Nurumal, Dr. Hasanah Pairoh, and Dr. Ayuni Asma’ Baharudin, received a distinguished and warm reception from the executives of Walailak University.

The event commenced with heartfelt welcoming remarks from Asst. Prof. Dr. Suthasinee Sangkhum, Assistant to the President, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Patnarin Supakorn, Director of the Center for International Affairs (CIA), who emphasised the importance of academic collaboration in advancing nursing education and research.

The session concluded with a generous lunch hosted by the President of Walailak University, Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong. The warm hospitality reflected the graciousness of the hosts and set a positive tone for the programme.

A Collaborative Start

The programme kicked off with a video presentation from the Center for International Affairs, offering an in-depth overview of Walailak University’s mission, research initiatives and academic achievements.

This was followed by an introduction to the Kulliyyah of Nursing, IIUM, showcasing the Kulliyyah’s and University’s commitment to nursing education and its global contributions to healthcare research.

Workshops on Research Excellence and Collaboration

A core feature of the programme was a series of workshops focused on enhancing academic research capacity and building sustainable international partnerships.

Enhancing Faculty Research Capacity: Strategies for Success

The first workshop was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamil Che Hasan to all participants. The session focused on strategies for successful grant writing and publishing in high-impact journals. Participants engaged in dynamic discussions on enhancing research quality and visibility, with emphasis on practical tools and techniques for overcoming common challenges in academic publishing.

Fostering Collaborative Research Excellence

The second workshop, delivered by Prof. Dr. Mohd Said Nurumal, focused on fostering international collaboration through academic partnerships. Discussions explored joint research projects, cross-border collaboration and opportunities for both institutions to leverage their respective strengths in producing impactful research.

The workshops continued with small-group discussions among participants, allowing academics to work together on developing research proposals across different nursing specialisations and identifying potential areas for future collaborative studies.

The Staff Mobility Programme was a resounding success, demonstrating the power of international academic partnerships. KON Walk-a-versary: A Joyful Celebration of Health, Community and Togetherness

In a vibrant celebration of the Kulliyyah of Nursing's (KON) 20th Anniversary , the KON Walk-a-versary was successfully held as part of the second day of the Kulliyyah of Nursing Festival (KONFest) . This special event also coincided with the PASTI Luqman al-Hakim Kuantan Sports Day , creating an atmosphere filled with excitement, energy and community spirit.

Hosted at the IIUM Kuantan Campus , the event attracted an impressive 775 participants , including KON members, the IIUM Kuantan community, PASTI preschool students, their parents, and members of the Kuantanese public.

The event was meticulously organised by the Nursing Students Society (NurSS) in collaboration with the Kulliyyah of Nursing and PASTI Luqman al-Hakim . With a strong emphasis on promoting health, unity and fun, the Walk-a-versary featured a well-structured route designed to accommodate all participants.

The 2.5 km route was specifically designed for the PASTI kindergarten students and their parents, ensuring a manageable and enjoyable experience for the young participants and their families.

The 5 km route was prepared for members of the IIUM community and the public. The route extended beyond the initial path to provide participants with a more challenging yet enjoyable walking experience around the IIUM Kuantan Campus.

More than a physical activity, the KON Walk-a-versary brought together families, students, staff and members of the community in a joyful celebration of health, friendship and togetherness.

Adding to the excitement of the event, committee members set up multiple checkpoints along the walking route, ensuring that participants remained energised and engaged throughout the programme.

The checkpoints offered a variety of refreshments, ranging from refreshing beverages to delicious traditional kuih-muih, including local bite-sized cakes and pastries, as well as donuts and other treats. These refreshments provided a delightful break for walkers and enhanced their overall experience.

Celebrating Togetherness and Community

The KON Walk-a-versary was not just about physical activity; it was also a celebration of togetherness and community engagement. Families, students and staff walked side by side, enjoying the scenic route while fostering connections and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

The collaboration between KON and PASTI Luqman al-Hakim further emphasised the importance of early childhood exposure to physical activity and community involvement. By bringing young children, parents, university students and staff together, the programme created an inclusive environment that encouraged active living from an early age.

Inbound Mobility Programme with Year 3 Nursing Students from UMY and USK

The Kulliyyah of Nursing, IIUM, proudly congratulates nursing students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) and Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) on successfully completing their 18-week Exchange Mobility Program for the Semester 1, 2024/2025 session. This program served as an invaluable platform for academic enrichment, professional skill development, and cultural exchange.

Academic Placement and Learning Journey

Throughout the semester, all participating students were placed in Section 4 of Year 3 Nursing alongside their IIUM peers. UMY students attended physical classes at the Kulliyyah of Nursing, while USK students joined virtually from their home university. Despite the geographical separation, the students remained highly engaged in discussions, coursework, and collaborative learning activities. The highlight of their academic journey was the final examination, which brought all students together physically at IIUM to complete their assessments in a unified setting.

Specialised Nursing Subjects and Holistic Learning

During the program, students undertook multiple specialized nursing subjects designed to enhance their clinical expertise and theoretical knowledge. These subjects included Maternal-Newborn Nursing and Gynaecological Nursing, Child Health Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Emergency, Theatre and Intensive Care Nursing, and Biostatistics and Epidemiology. Exposure to these diverse areas of nursing provided students with a holistic learning experience, equipping them with essential skills for their future careers in healthcare.

Professional Growth and Cultural Exchange

The Exchange Mobility Program also allowed students to gain insight into different healthcare systems, share best practices in nursing, and develop a deeper appreciation for cultural diversity within the field. The Elective Patient Safety in ICU Webinar, titled “Optimising Patient Safety Through Simulation on Critical Care Units”, was successfully held on 25th January 2025, attracting 116 participants.

The vibrant atmosphere at Tasek Kotasas was abuzz with excitement as the Karnival Sihat Ria 2024, organised by IIUM Nursing Care Services (INCS), drew an enthusiastic crowd from the Kuantan community. The event aimed to foster closer ties between the Kulliyyah of Nursing and local residents while championing health and wellness for all.

A standout feature of the carnival was the INCS Fun Run, which attracted an impressive 256 runners from the Kuantan community. Participants of all ages came together for a spirited run that showcased the importance of staying active as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Beyond the run, attendees enjoyed a variety of engaging activities, including a Fruit Decoration Competition, Health Check-Up and Exhibition, which provided valuable health insights and resources. The exhibition featured booths highlighting the significance of preventive care and wellness, aligning with the event’s mission to prioritise healthcare for every layer of society.

The highlight of the day came after the conclusion of the INCS Fun Run, with an exciting prize-giving ceremony and a highly anticipated lucky draw. Participants and attendees eagerly awaited the announcement of winners, with prizes ranging from refrigerators, electrical appliances, bicycles, and cash rewards to many other surprises, ensuring smiles all around.

Speaking at the event, the program manager of this event, Mr. Akmal Ibrahim remarked, “This carnival is a testament to our commitment to bring the nursing community and Kuantan residents closer together while promoting the importance of holistic health and wellness. We are thrilled by the overwhelming response and the positive energy shared by everyone here today.”

Following the successful completion of the camp, our students took their learning experience to the next level — flying to Singapore for a Clinical Observatory organised by Woodland Healthcare Hospital from 11th to 13th November 2024. This trip, accompanied by Dr. Alif Abdul Hamid, saw them join an exclusive group of invitees to observe advanced clinical practices and gain international exposure in a prestigious healthcare setting.

Another remarkable learning experience took place as 16 Year 4 students from the 𝐸𝑙𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝑃𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑆𝑎𝑓𝑒𝑡𝑦 𝑖𝑛 𝐼𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝐶𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑈𝑛𝑖𝑡 course visited the ICU and CICU at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan. Under the guidance of Dr. Noor Azizah Mohd Ali, the visit was joined by Dr. Siti Azuna Abu Bakar, Head of Department, Critical Care Nursing, and Mdm Aida Ab Samad from the Clinical Skills Centre (CSC). This educational visit provided invaluable insights into the critical care setting, emphasizing patient safety practices and multidisciplinary collaboration. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan for their exceptional cooperation and for hosting our students. We hope this experience greatly benefits their journey toward becoming compassionate and skilled healthcare professionals.
