TARGETED RESEARCH PROJECTS AND YOUTH AWARENESS-RAISING PROGRAMMES ARE NECESSARY IN POST-RATIFICATION OF TPNW

Participants of the “Roundtable Discussion on TPNW and Malaysia: Humanitarian and Multidisciplinary Approaches to Post-Ratification” observe that targeted research projects that are aligned with the government’s priorities are necessary to advance the cause of prohibition of nuclear weapons not only by Malaysia but by all states. It is also important that awareness-raising programmes among the youth should continue in earnest.

BANNING NUCLEAR WEAPONS IS TO SAVE HUMANITY

Gombak, 1 August 2022. Nuclear weapons are threat to the existence of human and the world. This is one of the central points voice by speakers in the Conference Pertaining to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW): National Implementation and the Role of Youth.
Prof Farid Sufian Shuaib, the Dean of Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL), in his welcoming remarks, wishes that the current and the future generations, from all backgrounds, will work together to remove our existential threat through the elimination of nuclear weapons as mandated by the Treaty on the Prohibitions of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) which instrument of ratification Malaysia has signed on 30th September 2020. Ms Sahar Haroon, the Regional Legal Adviser of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in welcoming the participants, welcomes the collaboration between IIUM, the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) and ICRC in furtherance to the objective of the treaty.

AIKOL STUDENT IBADAH CAMP IS BACK

Gombak, 3 July 2022. Student Ibadah Camp was once a staple programme in moulding the worldview and the character of IIUM students. The programme seeks to provide a platform for the students to discuss and to shape the balanced graduates that the university seeks to nurture. Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL) brought back the programme in 2019. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the Kulliyyah to defer the programme in subsequent years.

AIKOL ALUMNI WING IS HELPING AIKOL TO GIVE ITS “GIVE TO AIKOL” CAMPAIGN A BOOST

Gombak, 5 July 2022. AIKOL Alumni Wing, the alumni wing of Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL) is working with the Kulliyyah to relaunch the Give to AIKOL campaign that begun in 2019 leading to the 40th anniversary of the Kulliyyah (and the university) in 2023.
During the visit, Bro Zulkifli Jaafar and Dato’ Zuhri Iskandar bin Kamarzaman, both alumnus of IIUM are eager to lend their hand in bolstering the Give to AIKOL fund. The alumni noted the call from the government for universities to solicit funds and to generate income in achieving the vision of the university and the Kulliyyah.

AIKOL IS WORKING WITH UNISZA TO PROVIDE QUALIFICATION TO SHARIAH LAWYERS IN TERENGGANU TO PRACTISE

Kuala Terengganu, 26 June 2022. Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL) is working with Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UNISZA) to provide qualification to Shariah lawyers in the Terengganu to practise. Harun M. Hashim Law Centre will collaborate with the Faculty of International Relations and Law, UNISZA in providing the training for candidates from Terengganu and surrounding areas.
As the pioneering faculty in Malaysia that provide the postgraduate programme of the Diploma in Syariah Legal Practice (DSLP) and the Diploma in Administration of Islamic Judiciary (DAIJ) as the qualifying postgraduate diplomas to enter Shariah practice as Shariah judges, Shariah lawyers and Shariah officers, AIKOL is happy to work with other institutions to share its experience and expertise.
Prof Farid Sufian Shuaib, the Dean of AIKOL and Assoc Prof Zuraidah Ali, the Director of Harun M. Hashim Law Centre discuss in detail the proposed collaboration with Assoc Prof Nazli bin Ismail @ Nawang, the Dean of the Faculty of Law and International Relations and his team.

TRUST, ENDOWMENT AND WAQF PROVIDE THE PLATFORMS FOR THE FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY OF UNIVERSITIES

Gombak, 30 June 2022. Experts from Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL) shares their opinions with colleagues from the Yayasan Canselor, National University of Malaysia on the law of trust, endowment and waqf as platforms for financial sustainability of universities.
In welcoming the delegates, Prof Farid Sufian Shuaib, the Dean of AIKOL expresses his happiness that colleagues from the Yayasan Canselor have chosen to come to AIKOL in recognising the expertise of the Kulliyyah in both in civil law and Shariah related to the law of trust, endowment, waqf, wills and hibah.
Prof Sharifah Zubaidah Syed Abdul Kader, Prof Nor Asiah Mohamad, Assoc Prof Zuraidah Ali, Assoc Prof Badruddin Ibrahim and Assoc Prof Akmal Hidayah Halim explain the differences of the platforms under the civil law and Shariah and its application in Malaysia. They also analyse the differences between the platforms and the experiences of local universities in implementing it.
Assoc Prof Amizawati Mohd Amir, the Deputy Director of Yayasan Canselor together with Assoc Prof Haniff Ahamat from the Office of Legal Adviser thank the Kulliyyah for the sharing session.
Prof Farid Sufian Shuaib offers the service of Harun M. Hashim Law Centre in providing customised training and consultation to the Yayasan Canselor to formulate the tools in using the various platforms.

STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY BENEFITED FROM THE AIKOL COMMUNITY SERVICE UNDER THE JALINAN MAHABBAH PROGRAMME

Gombak, 18 June 2022. With the tagline Service from the Heart, Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL) through its IIUM Legal Aid Services and IIUM Legal Aid Club reaches out to the community at Taman Desa Gemilang, Gombak. Jalinan Mahabbah 1.0 2022, is an on-going community project by AIKOL to create legal awareness among the community and provide free legal assistance to those in need. The in-person version of the programme was frozen during the pandemic.
